Cybersecurity Starts with You: 3 Smart Ways to Protect Your Accounts

Cybercrime is on the rise, but you don’t have to be an expert to protect yourself. At East County Schools Federal Credit Union (ECSFCU), we work hard to safeguard your information, but your habits matter, too. Here are three simple but powerful steps you can take to help keep your accounts safe:

🔐 1. Use Strong, Unique Passwords

Avoid using the same password for multiple accounts. Instead, choose long, complex combinations, and consider a password manager to keep them safe and organized.

🔑 2. Turn On Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra security step, like a text message or app code, when logging in. This simple step makes it much harder for someone to access your account without your permission.

🔔 3. Set Up Account Alerts

Enable alerts in your ECSFCU Online Banking or Mobile App to get real-time updates on large transactions, logins, and account changes. Fast notifications = fast action if something suspicious happens.

Conclusion:
These small steps can make a big difference. Need help setting up alerts or managing your online account? Call or text us at 619-588-1515—we’re here to help!

While overseas I found myself in the frightening situation of being out of cash and with two debit cards from other financial institutions that weren’t working, despite my travel notice pre-planning. ECSFCU’s amazing member services team stayed late on a Friday to approve and immediately fund a quick loan that made the rest of our trip wonderful. Nobody else does that! Not only is it something that I will never forget, but it’s something I want to tell everyone about.
